Why the Flush Sill is a Must-Have for Modern Luxury Homes
Using a “flush sill” in sliding door design isn’t just an aesthetic choice. It’s cost effective while retaining higher quality and longevity of the door: a flush sill means there is little to no raised threshold, which creates a smooth transition between the indoors and outdoors. This sill also gives a clean, minimalist look that favors contemporary designs.
Flush sills can be installed “with riser” for a more traditional transition from tile/carpet floor to your home’s exterior, or “without riser” for tiled flooring that spans through the door’s opening. All flush sill designs come with a slot for drainage. Screens are typically placed in the interior of the door system, but are also available for the exterior if that is your preference. These options are similarly available when installing all configurations of our 5000, 4501 & 4551 sliding door systems.

The 4501 Sliding Door Series: Standard Frame Excellence
The Monumental 4501 Sliding Glass Door combines European-inspired style with California craftsmanship, offering a durable, thermally broken aluminum frame for improved energy efficiency. It accommodates large custom glass panels, up to 8 feet wide and 12 feet tall that blend seamlessly into the floor and ceiling because of the flush sill. The 4501 series is offered in numerous configurations, motorized options, and features consistently high-end hardware.
With precision-engineered rollers and corrosion-resistant stainless steel tracks, this door provides smooth operation and longevity. Custom finishes, colors, and insect screens further enhance its adaptability for modern luxury builds.
The 4551 Vari-Slide™ Series: Expandable Versatility
The new 4551 Vari-Slide™ series is an expansion of our existing 4550 automatic sliding door products that builds on the standard flush sill option. This expandable sliding door blends seamlessly with finished flooring in both interior or exterior placement – it is entirely up to your preferences and the specifics of your home.
While the panels between the 4501 and the 4551 are the same, the frames are different; the 4550 frame has a single track for the sliding panel, fixed panel, and screen, whereas the 4551 Vari-Slide™ frame is expandable to multiple panels for different slide configurations and screens. This makes inclusion of the flush sill option possible at the same rate of cost savings as the original products in the 4500 Sliding Door series! The 4551 Vari-Slide™ also comes with the customizable option of adding an exterior riser for an exterior drop.
The 5000 Sublinear Series: Slim Styling with Modern Features
Our 5000 Sublinear Series sliding doors are inspired by European villa styles. With the 5000 Sublinear frames, you get the elegance and refinement of traditional glass doors with the right touch of modern technology, quality, and performance. These customizable aluminum frames include 7/8″ slim vertical and sill rails – and those flush sill perimeter sightlines – guaranteeing you the greatest view from your beautiful home. The low profile sill glides just above your flooring with minimal effort and seals against drafts, rain, and bugs. Our perimeter frames are designed to be installed flush with your finished surfaces for a neat, uninterrupted view. All of our sill assembly is comfortable to walk on barefoot with no protruding edges.
While flush sills are currently used in our 4500 and 5000 series, we’re planning to expand this technology across our products.
